I’m in London and am enjoying the snow(only tiny flakes) but still it’s snow!
New recordings are underway and the vibe is mega.
Off to Paris next week to shoot a clip for a tune called “mary”
Here is Luke, the director, he is best known for writing the book “candy” and the screenplay which led to the movie starring abbie cornish and heath ledger. If you haven’t seen it, then do it now. Like now. go on.
He is using a stop watch to map out the clip. Should be interesting…
Also I’m really digging that new yeasayer song- it’s available free for download at http://yeasayer.net
kareenaâ„¢ has been working away doing many an exhibition in the last year since she did the art for everything associated with “postcards”. All being well, she will be doing the art for the second record. We met last week and it’s apparently it’s going to be her “next masterpiece” (no pressure…)
I won’t deny that i love saying inappropriate things and putting people in ridiculously awkward situations. The better the person is at climbing out of the hole that i dug for them – the stronger/wittier the person. Survival of the fittest i guess.
This is me with “washo” and lisa mitchell at the J awards. It was a wild evening and thankfully this was the beginning. Sarah Blasko ended up deservedly winning the J award for her brave record and the middle east picked up the unearthed award.
A MASSIVE CONGRATULATIONS to my great friend WASHINGTON who was announced as the winner of the “Vanda and Young Songwriting competition”.
I first met her back in late 2007 when she had written a bunch of songs and was thinking about becoming her own thing as opposed to being a backing musician. So it’s rad to see her doing so well.
It has been a while. My apologies for my absence. I got stuck in traffic….I..uh…swear I called…I….
Excuses aside, I have been travelling the globe and enjoying myself (thank you New York!) and putting myself into the second record. I’ve been to some crazy towns such as Darwin, Stockholm, Helsinki, New York, LA and of course Berlin and after all that, we have finally decided upon the final twenty songs to be recorded and the first single (which is almost finished/mixed and sounding…. lushbutwild/hugebutintimate/differentbutsamesame..will be out in mid February. Sorry about the delay but Christmas gets in the way of putting out records. Blame it on Santa.
In the meantime, I recommend having a listen to the latest “Like a Version” compilation. Staying true to its goal of being more than just a typical covers album (which often are tragic affairs – ie Scarlett Johansson’s Tom Waits covers album…oh dear…Brian Ferry’s Bob Dylan covers album…really?!), the newest release features tracks such as our cover of The Preset’s ‘This Boy’s in Love’, our friends the Philly Jays taking on Jay Z’s ‘99 Problems’ & Whitley doing an intimate version of one of my favourite pop hits “dancing queen”. Shh.
